The Minister for Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare M.R.K. Panneerselvam on Monday distributed free laptops to 1,027 students of the Government Polytechnic College and Annamalai University under the Ulagam Ungal Kaiyil scheme.
The Minister said that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had launched several welfare schemes for students, making the State a model for education and social development. He highlighted the effective implementation of the Pudhumai Penn and Tamil Pudhalvan schemes, under which students pursuing higher education receive ₹1,000 per month.
Considering the welfare of students pursuing higher education, the Government has launched the Ulagam Ungal Kaiyil scheme. In Cuddalore, district, in the first phase, laptops worth ₹16.75 crore have been distributed to 9,051 students across 28 colleges.
In the second phase, laptops will be provided to final year students in 136 colleges, he added.
Earlier, the Minister accompanied by Collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar laid the foundation stone for upgradation of the 33 KV sub-station at Palayamkottai in Kaatumannarkovil, into a 110 KV sub-station at an estimated cost of ₹18 crore.
The sub-station will ensure uninterrupted three-phase electricity for farmers and will benefit consumers in Palayamkottai and surrounding areas.
