NIMHANS-type healthcare facility to come up in Mysuru

A NIMHANS-type healthcare institution is set to come up in Mysuru, with the project planned at a cost of ₹100 crore in the Varuna Assembly constituency, represented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

The facility will be built on a site at Gudamadanahalli village in Mysuru taluk. The Revenue Department has transferred the land required for the facility to the Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMCRI), under whose jurisdiction the institution will be established.

The project is expected to strengthen Mysuru’s public healthcare infrastructure by providing premier medical facilities not only to residents of Mysuru district but also to patients from neighbouring districts. The foundation stone for the project was laid by the Chief Minister at a programme held on January 19.

“People need not travel to Bengaluru’s NIMHANS for neurology-related treatment once the proposed institution near Mysuru becomes operational,” said MMCRI Dean and Director K.R. Dakshayani. She confirmed that the relevant land documents have been officially handed over to the MMCRI for executing the project.

In the initial phase, a G+5 building will be constructed on one acre, along with a de-addiction centre in a G+1 structure. The campus will later be expanded to include residential quarters for doctors and staff. A blood bank, laboratory, and rehabilitation centre will come up in the first phase, she added.

Specialised departments

Specialised departments such as neurosurgery, neuro-radiology, neuro-anaesthesia, and neuro-psychiatry will be set up. “The facility’s proximity to Mysuru airport will make it accessible to patients from across the region,” she added.

Other projects under MMCRI include a Critical Care Unit and an Outpatient Complex. Works are also under way for additional healthcare institutions, including the Kidwai Institute and the Institute of Nephro-Urology, which will be operating independently, the dean added.
