
Vedanta plans Rs 1.28L cr mega smelter plant in Dhenkanal | Bhubaneswar News – Times of India
Bhubaneswar: Mining giant Vedanta Group’s mega aluminium project at an investment of Rs 1.28 lakh crore in Dhenkanal district are among the eight industrial projects worth Rs 1.51 lakh crore cleared by the state govt on Monday.The high-level clearance authority (HLCA), chaired by chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi, approved Vedanta’s plan to set up a 3 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) aluminium smelter along with a 4,900 MW captive power plant (CPP). The project is expected to generate 30,000 jobs and further strengthen Odisha’s position as a global aluminium hub.The seven other approved projects, spread across six districts — Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Khurda, and Sambalpur — cover diverse sectors including chemicals, steel, textiles, and metal downstream industries, promising an additional 30,200 jobs.The CM-led panel also approved SRF Ltd’s proposal to set up a speciality chemicals and refrigerant manufacturing unit with an annual capacity of 2 lakh MT in Ganjam, at an investment of Rs 10,000 crore, which is expected to generate 20,000 employment opportunities.In the steel and metal downstream sector, Jindal India Steel Tech Ltd will set up a 1.26 MTPA speciality steel processing facility in Dhenkanal, at an investment of Rs 3,600 crore, creating 2,000 jobs. Further, the govt gave its nod to Shyam Steel Manufacturing Ltd for a 0.53 MTPA integrated steel plant, DI pipe unit and 46 MW CPP in Keonjhar, at an investment of Rs 2,490 crore, employing 2,370 people. Additionally, Linde India Ltd will invest Rs 1,303.50 crore to establish an air separation unit in Jajpur, offering high-quality industrial gases and employing 100 people.In the ancillary metal sector, the panel approved Star Metal Works Pvt Ltd’s plan of a narrow hot strip mill, cold rolling, and plate-cum-steckle mill at an investment of Rs 2,291 crore in Sambalpur, creating 250 jobs. Supreme Metals Export Pvt Ltd plans a 1.2 MTPA rolling mill for TMT bars and wire rods in Keonjhar, worth Rs 1,500 crore, generating 680 jobs.In the textiles sector, Sportking India Ltd will invest Rs 2,055 crore in Khurda to establish a cotton and blended yarn manufacturing unit with an annual capacity of 62,000 MT, creating 4,800 jobs.The CM said the six HLCA meetings chaired by him since he took over cleared 62 projects with total investments of Rs 5.67 lakh crore that can potentially create about 2.42 lakh jobs. “It is a clear step towards the national goal of ‘Viksit Bharat by 2047′ and the state’s vision of ‘Samruddha Odisha by 2036′. Odisha is moving confidently towards becoming a leading industrial and investment hub in India,” he said.
