The Attapur police arrested two persons for posing as vehicle finance agents and for allegedly assaulting and extorting money from a local man. The duo have been identified as Harbhajan Singh and Sachin Pawar, both residents of Sikh Chawni in Attapur, were arrested following a complaint filed by the victim, Abdul Bashir.
According to Attapur Inspector K. Nageshwar Rao, the incident occurred while Abdul was driving from Moinabad to Mehdipatnam. The duo intercepted his car and falsely claimed that ₹60,000 was pending as vehicle finance dues.
According to the police: “They initially demanded ₹60,000. When Abdul resisted, they gradually reduced the demand, first to ₹8,000, then to ₹3,000. When he did not budge, they assaulted him in the face and forcibly took control of his vehicle. Only after he paid ₹2,500 did they release his vehicle. Before fleeing, they threatened him not to report the incident to the police.”
The duo has been remanded to judicial custody.
