Three persons died after a multi-utility vehicle was hit by a private bus in Miyar village in Karkala Town Police station limits on Friday.

Three persons died and few others were injured after a private bus rammed into a multi-utility vehicle (MUV) near Kambala Cross in Miyar village in Karkala Town Police station limits on Friday.

The Karkala Town Police gave names of the deceased as Mannappa, the driver of the multi-utility vehicle; Chethu and Rohith.

Police said the MUV from Kalaburagi district carried 12 persons and a child. The inmates were heading to Dharmasthala after visiting Udupi. Near Kambala Cross, on NH-169, the MUV was hit head-on by a private bus going towards Karkala from Dharmasthala around 2.50 p.m.

Mannappa, Chethu and Rohith died on the spot. One seriously injured victim was admitted at Kasturba Hospital in Manipal. One child with simple injury and other injured inmates of the MUV were undergoing treatment at a hospital in Karkala town, the police said.

The Karkala Town Police have registered a case and investigations are under way to find the cause of accident.
