State tables first supplementary budget, chorus for Bharat Ratna for Shibu grows inside the House | Ranchi News – Times of India

Ranchi: Jharkhand govt tabled its first supplementary budget of Rs 4,296.62 crore for the current fiscal year in the state assembly as the monsoon session reconvened on Friday. The assembly was abruptly suspended following the demise of JMM founder and Dishom Guru, Shibu Soren on Aug 4. State’s finance minister Radhakrishana Kishore placed the demands, the debate on which is scheduled to take place on Aug 25.As the house resumed on Friday, emotions ran high in favour of late Shibu Soren as members of the ruling alliance demanded Bharat Ratna for the tribal stalwart. Legislators of non-ruling parties including opposition BJP too seemed titled for a fitting tribute and honour to him, although many commented in a measured way. During the tributes reading process for the departed souls, including Shibu, Congress’s leader of legislative party, Pradeep Yadav urged the House to pass a resolution to recommend top civilian honour to the Union govt. “No one could be more deserving for Bharat Ratna than our beloved Shibu Sorenji, who dedicated his life for jal, jungle and jameen and statehood movement. He deserves the top national honour,” he said, and also demanded that his life and times be included in school curriculum. “I appeal Hemant Sorenji, not just as the son of Shibu Soren, but as the chief minister of this state to work towards this,” he appealed. Talking to reporters outside the House, CM Hemant Soren said, “Well, many members have expressed their feelings in the House towards Dishom Guru. The House will discuss and debate on it to take an appropriate decision.” JDU MLA Saryu Roy too supported the demand, saying Shibu Soren should be honoured at the national level by any means. Independent MLA Arup Chatterjee urged the CM to install a giant statue of Shibu in his native village in Nemra besides Bharat Ratna to develop the place as a tourist spot. AJSU legislator Nirmal Mahato also pressed for a resolution to recommend Bharat Ratna for Shibu, adding that implementing prohibition in Jharkhand would be a true tribute to him. JKLM’s MLA Jairam Mahato proposed installing statues of Shibu and other statehood movement stalwarts at the highest peak of Parasnath Hills, a revered site for both Jains and tribals.
