SDPI discusses ‘hate campaigns’ labour laws & pay parities at meet | Chennai News – The Times of India

Chennai: More than 1,000 booth in-charges and office-bearers of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) took part in a Chennai zone conference at Ambattur on Sunday, as part of 2026 poll preparations. It adopted a set of resolutions, beginning with a call for action against what it described as ‘hate campaigns’ centred on the Thiruparankundram issue. The party said communal forces were targeting places of worship across the state through ‘historically inaccurate’ statements and social media propaganda. It sought the repeal of 4 new labour law codes that came into force in Nov 2025, arguing they diluted long-standing labour rights, weakened trade unions, extended working hours, and restricted the right to strike. SDPI urged state govt to hand over land earmarked for Muslim burial grounds in urban areas without delay, and pressed for action on long-pending demands of teachers and sanitation workers seeking pay parity, job regularisation and full wages.
