Bhubaneswar: Subarnapur administration decided to dedicate 1 classroom in every school in the district to freedom fighter Gurubari Meher.In a directive to all principals, headmasters and headmistresses of all types of schools in Subarnapur district on Thursday, the district education officer Minarani Mangal directed school heads to designate a well-maintained classroom as ‘Gurubari Meher Kakshya’ and use it for academic purposes only.In Odisha’s Prajamandal Movement, Gurubari is depicted as the ‘soldier of western Odisha’ who led a mass movement against the king of Subarnapur (then Sonepur) on Jan 28, 1947, when the latter unleashed a reign of terror at Binkia. She was shot dead by police then.
