SaaS firms redefine workflow, pricing models with AI adoption – The Times of India

Chennai: Software vendors’ are experimenting with newer product offerings and pricing models as they integrate artificial intelligence (AI) models and AI agents. Industry experts said software as a service (SaaS) companies are realigning their entire product workflows and this is testing the current pay per seat software subscription model.
Chaitanya Chokkareddy, co-founder and CTO of Ozonetel said AI provides advantages to the incumbent SaaS companies with data but stressed the need to reinvent product offerings. “Simply adding features like writing email will not work, so you have to change your whole process in software for agentic automation.”
He said the current pay per seat pricing model is under threat. “The pricing model is still evolving and companies are experimenting with paying for the agentic framework; paying for usage where they pay based on tokens or minutes and outcome-based models such as closing a lead or resolving a support ticket,” he said.
Prasanna Krishnamoorthy, managing partner Upekkha, an AI-based SaaS fund and accelerator said the current software purchase pattern of buying software for verticals and stitching together does not work well, he said. “With AI you get closer to delivering the outcome, you may need to do things outside silos…When adopting AI, SaaS entrepreneurs and enterprises should think differently and that is going to change the pricing models, which will vary for different use cases,” he added.
Suresh Sambandam, CEO of Kissflow and part of SaaSBoomi, a community of founders, said AI is a fundamental technology shift and companies are figuring out monetisation models. He said, “AI adoption is disrupting the business software market and similar to the cloud adoption, if a company fails to adapt in the right way they might lose market share.” Sambandam further added that the Indian software market is expected to grow from $20 billion to $100 billion by 2035 and presents a good opportunity for domestic SaaS companies.

Data collection under lens, debate deferred to May 2 | Bengaluru News – The Times of India

Bengaluru: The much-anticipated special cabinet meeting on the controversial Socio-Economic and Educational Survey — popularly called ‘caste census‘ — ended in anti-climax Thursday, with the state govt pushing discussions to its next sitting on May 2.
With pressure from dominant Vokkaliga and Veerashaiva-Lingayat communities which have dismissed the survey as ‘unscientific’ and demanded a fresh exercise, the cabinet refrained from taking a conclusive stand. Refusing to bite the bullet, CM Siddaramaiah has asked ministers to submit their opinions in writing before the next cabinet discussion.
The cabinet is said to have discussed only 25% of the report, pointing to long-drawn deliberations ahead. “Neither the data on population nor the next step was discussed at the meeting,” one minister claimed. Minister Ramalinga Reddy confirmed the discussions were inconclusive. Sources said minister-level discussions will be held informally to iron out the wrinkles before the May 2 meeting.
While the survey has stirred sharp disapproval from key social groups and within Congress, there remains vocal support from Dalit, OBC leaders and a few organisations. They have demanded that the govt release the findings, citing the Rs 160 crore spent on the project from public funds.
The two-hour meeting showed fault lines run deeper, though law and parliamentary affairs minister HK Patil maintained discussions were cordial with ministers trying to understand the survey-enumeration process. He said the meeting remained incomplete as several ministers sought more details from OBC department at the next discussion.
Patil said discussions largely focused on data-collection methodology. “For instance, parameters were sought on how the economic status of a person was calculated if he owned cattle. Whether it was the cattle itself or the products he was able to sell. Such questions require clarity,” he said, confirming that the version of the report circulating in the media and the one presented to ministers was the same. He said the survey conducted in 2015 covered 94.1% of the state’s population.
According to some ministers, deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar and horticulture minister SS Mallikarjun — son of senior Congress MLA Shamanur Shivashankarappa, who helms All India Veerashaiva Mahasabha — were among those who strongly objected to the data-collection process. Siddaramaiah reportedly defused tension by encouraging ministers to record objections or dissent in writing.
In the run-up to the meeting, Siddaramaiah separately met delegations of Vokkaliga and Lingayat ministers. The next regular cabinet meeting on April 24, at MM Hills in Chamarajanagar district, will restrict its focus to regional development matters.

At 1.06%, inflation in Telangana lowest in the country | Hyderabad News – The Times of India

Hyderabad: Telangana has posted the lowest consumer price index (CPI) inflation rates in the country for two consecutive months, marking its lowest since the state’s formation in 2014. The inflation rate that stood at 1.31% in Feb, further dipped to 1.06% in March, making Telangana the only state with inflation below 2%, and well under the Reserve Bank of India’s recommended ‘healthy’ range of 2% to 4%.
In contrast, India’s national average CPI inflation for March stood at 3.34%, and 3.32% in Feb, placing Telangana well below the national trend. Among other states, Telangana is followed by Jharkhand (2.08%), Andhra Pradesh (2.5%), Sikkim (2.35%), Gujarat (2.63%), and Rajasthan (2.66%).
While on the surface this appears promising, experts are cautioning that such unusually low inflation—referred to as ‘limping inflation’—could indicate deeper structural issues.
“This low inflation could suggest either a lack of purchasing power and lower demand, especially in rural areas, or a genuine stabilisation of prices due to better supply-demand management. We need to observe trends over the coming months to draw firm conclusions,” said Krishna Reddy Chittedi, associate professor at the School of Economics, University of Hyderabad.
However, this development is especially notable given Telangana’s past. During the Covid-19 pandemic and shortly afterwards, the state witnessed some of the highest inflation rates in the country, exceeding 10% — a case of ‘running inflation’ that raised serious concerns about the rising cost of living.
“Telangana’s turnaround in curbing inflation is commendable,” Krishna Reddy said and added, “but the focus must now shift to ensuring that this isn’t a reflection of economic stagnation—particularly in rural areas, where low demand could be hurting growth.” While the urban inflation rate in Telangana is at an appropriate level, the rural economy requires closer monitoring, he elaborated.
The RBI classifies inflation below 2% or above 4% as a sign of economic stress. As Telangana hovers below the lower threshold, policymakers and economists alike are closely watching to determine whether this signals a sustained recovery or a brewing concern.
