Phone tapping enquiry is a staged drama of Congress and BRS: Kavitha

Telangana Jagruthi president Kalvakuntla Kavitha launched a sharp attack on both the Congress and BRS, alleging that the ongoing phone tapping inquiry was a ‘staged drama’ aimed at diverting public attention from the demand for 42% reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) in the upcoming municipal elections.

She said both the leaders (indicating Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and BRS leader T. Harish Rao) were together in this public diversion effort and Telangana will not get justice with them.

Speaking at the Telangana Jagruthi office in Banjara Hills on Wednesday, she said phone tapping issue was deliberately raised during the municipal election season to prevent Backward Classes from questioning the denial of promised reservations.

Ms. Kavitha accused the Congress of cheating BCs by underreporting their population in the caste survey and said the proposed Central caste census offered an opportunity to expose the ‘fraud’. Announcing that Telangana Jagruthi would take the lead, she called upon BC intellectuals to join the effort and said the organisation would collect detailed data on BC castes and sub-castes to prevent injustice.

While clarifying that Telangana Jagruthi had not yet emerged as a full-fledged political party, she assured support and campaign assistance to aspiring candidates from marginalised sections. Earlier, she paid tributes to Mucherla Satyanarayana for his contributions to the backward and weaker sections, as well as his role in the Mulki movement and both phases of the Telangana movement.
