Nine RMC teams to monitor wet-waste supply to Jhiri plant | Ranchi News – The Times of India

Ranchi: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation pressed into action nine dedicated teams to oversee bulk waste generators (BWGs), enforce strict source segregation and ensure complete waste collection.
The move came as the civic body’s tighter norms for dry and wet waste segregation at source kicked in on Tuesday.
The RMC teams, which include sanitary supervisors, food inspectors, enforcement officers, and representatives from Swachh Bharat Mission, have also tasked to ensure steady supply of wet waste to GAIL’s compressed biogas plant at Jhiri dump, which is designed to process 150 tonnes of wet waste every day.
“Our teams are actively working at the ward level to ensure compliance among BWGs such as hotels, restaurants, and large establishments. Notices are being issued to violators, and mixed waste will not be collected,” said RMC deputy municipal commissioner (DMC) Ravindra Kumar.
The Jhiri CBG plant, inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi in October 2024, is designed to produce 5,000 kg of bio-CNG and 25 tonnes of bio-manure. However, with the current collection at just 30 tonnes, the plant’s operations are below par.
A GAIL official, requesting anonymity, said, “Micro-organisms essential for converting waste into biogas require consistent feeding. If the supply remains inadequate, the entire process could be jeopardized.”
To monitor progress, teams will conduct daily inspections, collect photographic evidence, and submit compliance reports. Senior officials will oversee the initiative, with review meetings scheduled regularly to assess effectiveness.
