My Rendition Blends Modern sensibility With Deep Respect for The Original
How has Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s music influenced your style and approach to singing?
Nusrat Saab is a true encyclopedia of music — transcending genres and styles. The more I listen and learn from his work, the more I realize how vast the world of music truly is. His music hasn’t just influenced my singing; it has shaped my entire career.
What inspires you to write and compose original songs like ‘Tera Rang’ and ‘Poori Tarah Se’?
Songs like Tera Rang and Poori Tarah Se exist in completely different sonic worlds. Before recording them, I had to fully immerse myself in the emotion of each track, understand the lyrics deeply, and find the right mindset. Only then did the performance feel authentic.
Why do you choose to cover classic songs like ‘Kiveh Mukhde’ and ‘Kali KaliZulfon Ke’, and how do you make them your own?
Over the years, timeless songs like ‘Kali Kali Zulfon Ke’ and ‘Kiven Mukhde’ have been reimagined by many artists. What I believe set my renditions apart was a modern sensibility blended with a deep respect for the original soul — a contemporary yet pure approach.
How has social media helped you connect with your audience and grow your fan base?
To truly connect and grow on social media, I believe the key is to stay authentic — be true to your art, stay creative, and most importantly, be unique. If your craft speaks for itself, people will naturally appreciate it and support you. That’s how I’ve built what I proudly call not a fan base, but a big extended family.
How do you manage to create music that resonates with such a wide range of listeners, and what themes do you often explore in your songs?
I’ve always followed my gut when it comes to making music. I don’t believe in labeling a song as good or bad — that’s for the listeners to decide, and they’re the best judges. My focus is simply to keep creating without boxing myself into any one style or genre.
What can your fans expect from your upcoming music projects and are there any collaborations or new genres you’re looking to explore?
I am constantly working on new music — in fact, I am working on a song as we speak. I am collaborating with a diverse range of artists and producers for my upcoming projects, and there’s a lot more music on the way in the coming days.
