A major fire broke out at an old plastic warehouse near the Chinnapallapatti area on the Dindigul-Batlagundu Road.

The police said that the warehouse belonged to a person named Arif. It was used for collecting waste and old plastic materials, which were later supplied in bulk to plastic manufacturing companies.

According to sources, the fire broke out at around 5 a.m. on Friday (January 23, 2026). As the warehouse stored large quantities of plastic materials, the fire spread rapidly throughout the premises.

Local residents who noticed the fire alerted the Dindigul Fire and Rescue Services. Firefighters rushed to the spot and began operations, but due to the highly inflammable nature of plastic materials, the flames could not be brought under control immediately.

Subsequently, additional fire engines were deployed from the Vedasanthur and Athoor fire stations. Firefighting operations continued for more than four hours.

In total, five fire engines from three fire stations and around 30 firefighters were involved in the operation. After a prolonged effort, the fire was finally brought under control, officials from the Fire and Rescue Services confirmed.

The fire caused severe damage to property. Though the exact loss was yet to be ascertained, officials said that a probe would shed more light.

The Dindigul Taluk Police have registered a case and are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
