Chennai: Leaders across the political spectrum extended their wishes to veteran CPI leader R Nallakannu who turned 101 on Friday.Chief minister M K Stalin said Nallakannu was a living testament to selfless labour and an inspiration. Health minister Ma Subramanian called on Nallakannu at his house in Chennai. TNCC president K Selvaperunthagai called him “a man of simplicity who lead a honest public life”.
VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan said the left leader was an icon for Tamils. MDMK leader Vaiko recalled the political battles that Nallakannu fought, adding that he was more keen on removing injustices prevailing in society than winning elections. CPI’s political opponents too greeted Nallakannu, as PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss wished him good health, and AMMK general secretary T T V Dhinakaran recalled his fight for farmers and downtrodden during the British rule and after independence.tnn
