The trailer of Tamil superstar Vijay’s upcoming actioner, Jana Nayagan, was unveiled by the makers on Saturday, January 3, 2026. Touted as the swansong of the superstar, who is set to pursue his political career after the movie, Jana Nayagan is directed by H Vinoth of Valimai and Thunivu fame.

The trailer opens with a man asking another about the details of a person named Thalapathy Vetri Kondan. The man’s eyes light up with shock as he describes the qualities of the person. He is revealed to be Vijay’s character, who is seen engaging in intense action sequences and is feared by all. Later, Vetri is asked by his toddler daughter if he is “Superman.” He replies, “I am just an ordinary man. But I have heard people say that whatever I do is super.”

He is then seen training his now-grown daughter with some intensive exercises, urging her to join the army. When she gets kidnapped by some goons, Vetri rushes in to rescue her. An enigmatic Bobby Deol seems to be behind the kidnapping as he invites Vetri to “play a game”. His character plans something sinister. Vetri tries to halt his plan with his valour. There are visuals of him smashing the goons, hitting bullets with his guns and axing them to death. The trailer ends with Vetri looking at the camera and saying that he has no intention of backing down. “I am coming,” he declares in a new spin to his famous dialogue, “I am waiting.”

Packed with one too many meta references about his political plunge, the trailer of Jana Nayagan promises an action-packed film that is also Vijay’s most politically-charged. It also stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Narain, Gautham Vasudev Menon, and Mamitha Baiju in pivotal roles.

Jana Nayagan will also mark composer Anirudh Ravichander’s fifth collaboration with Vijay after Kaththi, Master, Beast, and Leo. With Sathyan Sooriyan handling the cinematography, the film has Pradeep E Ragav as the editor, Analarasu as the stunt choreographer, and Selvakumar as the art director. Anal Arasu is the action choreographer.

Jana Nayagan is produced by Venkat K Narayana of KVN Productions, and co-produced by Jagadish Palanisamy and Lohith NK. It will be released in theatres on January 9 during Pongal.
