NEW DELHI: A 26-year-old man was arrested for allegedly fatally hitting a man with a wooden stick during a drunken altercation in the Gandhi Nagar area of Shahdara.The deceased was identified as Danua, a 36-year-old from UP’s Hatras who ran an earthen pot-making shop and also pulled a pedal rickshaw.Police received a PCR call around 9.49 pm on Saturday about a man lying alongside a road in a pool of blood near the boundary wall of a school in Mahila Colony. Upon reaching the spot, police found that Danua, identified by the caller, was dead with head injuries and blood around his head.Simultaneously, police also received a complaint from a 62-year-old dhaba owner in the locality. He claimed that he was at his shop and basking in the warmth of a fire in the evening when rickshaw pullers Danua and Banti came to his dhaba and started consuming liquor. The 2 reportedly got into a heated altercation while intoxicated and used abusive language against each other.As the argument escalated, Banti allegedly picked up a wooden stick and hit Danua on his head, the dhaba owner further told police. He added that Danua then fell on the ground and started bleeding from his mouth.Bunti, identified as a rickshaw puller from UP’s Aligarh district, was arrested and the wooden stick was seized from the spot. A case was registered under section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Geeta Colony police station.
