The CPI(M) has appealed to the Government of India to strive for de-escalation of tension and bringing back normalcy at the international border areas.
Addressing the media here on Friday, CPI(M) national general secretary M.A. Baby urged the government to ensure the return of normalcy along the border. “At the recent all-party meeting, the Defence Minister announced the success of ‘Operation Sindoor’ as a retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack. It is time normalcy was restored at the international border,” he said.
However, Mr. Baby maintained that the Centre should take all possible steps to give a fitting reply to Pakistan if the neighbouring country resorted to provocative action. “But, the government should ensure that innocent lives are not lost in the crossfire,” he added.
Mr. Baby also urged the government to build diplomatic pressure at various levels on Pakistan to hand over the culprits of Pahalgam attack and bring the terrorist regime to an end.
Caste census
Describing the announcement on the caste census by the Centre as not a ‘sincere step’, Mr. Baby said that the move was aimed at getting political mileage in the Bihar Assembly elections.
“The government action in this regard was confined to a mere announcement. The government is yet to issue guidelines to this effect,” he said.
The CPI(M) leader suggested that a comprehensive survey, including a study on the social and economic conditions of various communities, be conducted to ensure that the benefits of education and employment schemes percolated to the lower levels.
The CPI(M) would take up the issue for a discussion in the monsoon sessions of Parliament, he added.
