Bokaro: The Bokaro police have intensified security protocols for jewellery establishments as part of which customers would no longer be allowed to enter stores with their faces covered by masks or scarves. The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Bokaro SP Harvinder Singh with more than 100 gold traders and jewellery shop owners to deliberate on foolproof security measures. The move comes in the wake of a failed robbery attempt at a prominent jewellery shop on Jan 11 in which an alert guard raised an alarm prompting police to swing in action. The meeting was also attended by all DSPs and officer in-charges of police stations across the district. Addressing the media, the SP said customers would no longer be allowed to enter stores with their faces covered by masks or scarves. “Jewellers must display prominent signage outside their establishments notifying patrons to keep their faces fully visible for identification purposes,” the SP added. The police have urged jewellery shop owners to ensure that CCTVs are fully operational and upgraded to high-definition standards and are positioned correctly. “Hidden cameras too must be installed at strategic places,” the SP said.He also asked shop owners to install high-decibel sirens and emergency alarm systems integrated with the nearest police stations. “The recent loot could be foiled due to the alertness of staff who pressed the alarm at the right time,” the SP added.“We are also strengthening our motorcycle-borne units, Rakshak Riders, to maintain a constant vigil in every corner of the city. There are nine teams with 75 personnel and 45 motorbikes in the unit,” he said.
