BENGALURU: A woman in her late 20s was arrested on charges of attacking and beating a woman home guard for advising her to wear decent clothing. The accused, identified as Damini alias Mohini, is a resident of Narayanapura in Mahadevapura. Damini, a private company employee, allegedly assaulted home guard Lakshmi Narasamma, who is attached to the Banasawadi traffic police station. Narasamma was treated as an outpatient at a private hospital for the injuries sustained in the attack. According to police, a few miscreants passed lewd comments on Damini’s attire while she was walking near KR Puram railway station on Friday evening. Narasamma, who was on traffic duty nearby, intervened and shooed away the miscreants. “Later, she advised Damini to wear decent clothes to avoid such incidents. She also asked her not to walk on the road due to heavy traffic. Angered by Narasamma’s remarks, Damini suddenly attacked her,” a senior police officer said. The assault was so violent that Narasamma suffered bleeding injuries to her face and nose. Police arrived at the spot shortly thereafter and took Damini into custody. Based on Narasamma’s complaint, Damini was arrested and later produced before a court, which remanded her to judicial custody at Bengaluru Central Prison. Police said Damini claimed she had attended school in the Maldives and later completed a BBM degree from a private college in the city.
