It is rare for an artiste to begin performing right on time – and it’s something Delhiites aren’t quite used to. So while the audience arrived at a leisurely pace, Anuv Jain was already on stage, mid-performance. With repeated encore requests for songs like Arz Kiya Hai , Husn and Baarishein , the singer performed for what he called the “best crowd,” sharing his story, why Delhi is special to him, and how the city’s audience keeps getting better each time – especially when it comes to singing along.‘THIS IS THE BIGGEST SOLO SHOW I’VE DONE’After introducing himself, Anuv shared a little backstory. “Some of you know me. For those who don’t, I come from Ludhiana. I had a normal childhood – loving friends, a twin sister and a good set of friends. When I was 11, my family went through a tragedy. My father fell ill, and when I turned 17, he passed away. I keep going back to that time. I used to feel so helpless. But as you see, guys, right now, and this is the biggest solo show I have done in my entire life. And I think to myself, ‘How the hell did this happen, man?’ But, we are here now. Pata nahi, kaise! Shayad aise waise, kaise ! I’ve been dreaming of making this song for the last 14 years. I released it last year, and it has since become one of my most streamed tracks – it is called Arz Kiya Hai ,” he said as he performed the song.‘MY WIFE’S FROM DELHI. SHE’S HERE IN THE CROWD AND I WANT TO SING FOR HER’Sharing another reason why Delhi is special to him, he said, “My wife is from this city, and she’s here in the crowd right now. There’s a song I wanted to sing for her – it was one of the first songs I wrote for her, because her smile reminds me of the crescent moon. It’s called Mazaak , and it’s a very special song.
