Dhanbad: The management of BSS Mahila College has urged Dhanbad district council to lease out its land to the institute. Notably, the council had issued an eviction notice to the college management on Jan 8 claiming that it is the owner of the land on which the institute is functioning. The eviction notice has left the future of over 4,000 students and 50 faculty members and staff uncertain. The college management was asked to vacate the land within 15 days. Following the notice, the college management swung into action to find an amicable solution to the deadlock.
Karuna, principal of the college, met council chairperson Sharda Singh on Saturday. “The college has been educating thousands of girls from the district and its adjoining areas while 50 families depend on it for their livelihood,” Karuna said. She urged Singh to consider leasing the land to the college management instead of forcing an eviction so that academics are not disrupted. At the meeting, it was decided that a mutual agreement would be worked out after January 26. “The decision would be taken keeping in mind the welfare of students and teachers. Our intention is not to remove the college. However, if a college is functioning on district council land, the council should receive due revenue. Both institutions will sit together and arrive at a decision that does not cause hardships to anyone,” she said.
