Sambalpur: An eight-year-old boy was critically injured after being hit by a pellet from an air gun at Rasanpur village under Sadar police station limits in Sambalpur district on Sunday.According to Sambalpur (sadar) SDPO Tofan Bag, the child and his parents live as tenants in Rasanpur village. Around 10am on Sunday, Dibyanshu Purohit (25), who owns the house, was firing his air gun at some birds from his terrace and upon hearing the sounds, the child went upstairs and was accidentally hit by the pellet in his lower back.He was initially taken to Sambalpur district headquarters hospital and later shifted to Vimsar, Burla. As the pellet remained lodged inside his body and his condition deteriorated, he was subsequently referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for advanced treatment.Police have detained Purohit for questioning and seized the air gun. Further investigation is underway.
