6 dead as bus from Chhattisgarh overturns in Latehar | Ranchi News – The Times of India


Tragedy struck in Latehar as a speeding bus, en route from Chhattisgarh, overturned in a steep valley, claiming at least six lives and injuring over two dozen passengers. The vehicle was carrying people to a pre-wedding ritual. Authorities are ensuring medical aid for the injured, with the reportedly inebriated driver critically hurt and airlifted.

Daltonganj: At least six people have died, and more than two dozen passengers were injured when a speeding bus overturned at the steep valley at Oursa under the Mahuadanr police station limits in Latehar district, on Sunday afternoon. The bus was coming from Chhattisgarh.Taking to X, CM Hemant Soren directed the district administration to ensure proper treatment to all the injured.SDPO (Mahuadanr) Sheopujan Baheliya said, “The bus was coming from Balrampur in Chhattisgarh. It had over 50 passengers, and the accident took place around 2 pm on Sunday.” The occupants of the bus were going to Mahuadanr for the ‘Lota Pani’ ceremony, a form of Tilak ritual ahead of a marriage.Gaurav said, “The bus was speeding while negotiating the steep valley of Oursa. It proved fatal.” The driver tried to brake hard, as marks from the tyres were found on the steep valley road, sources said.“The driver, who was drunk, is critically injured. He was rushed to Rims in Ranchi,” the SP said.Following the high number of injured passengers, many of them were rushed to a missionary health facility centre, some to a govt community health centre in Latehar and Ranchi, and the remaining to Ambikapur in Chhattisgarh, the SP said. The SDPO and his team, along with some civil officials, arranged ambulances and other vehicles to take the injured to the health centres.
