Hyderabad: Prior to the nabbing of four disc jockeys (DJs) performing under the influence of drugs, EAGLE officials had kept a watch on 51 shortlisted DJs. Officials said they would recommend that the licences of the pubs where the four were caught not be renewed. EAGLE sleuths gathered information on performers at various events across the city. “Around 500 people were performing at different events. Out of these, we shortlisted 51 DJs whom we suspected of drug abuse and kept under surveillance. During the events, four DJs tested positive,” EAGLE officials said, confirmed through urine tests.Despite warnings to the managements of the four pubs to ensure performers were drug-free, the instructions were not taken seriously. “From now on, these four pubs will be under our surveillance. The Excise Department and GHMC will be alerted and asked not to renew their establishment licences,” police said. They are also considering registering cases against the pubs. The remaining 47 shortlisted DJs continue to be monitored. The four DJs had consumed drugs before arriving at the pubs to perform. EAGLE, which deployed 15 teams, did not find any customers consuming drugs at pubs, resorts or other venues. The DJs will be sent to a de-addiction centre as they tested positive for abuse of ganja.During an operation to trace drugs in Adilabad, a trained police dog helped officers apprehend a man from whom ganja was recovered. The incident took place at Vinayak Chowk, where the dog, while sniffing, detected 38-year-old Sohail Ahmed. Police recovered six grams of ganja from him, contained in two separate packets.
