25 EV charging stations at RTC bus depots across Hyderabad

The Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Ltd (TGSPDCL) is planning to set up 25 charging stations in as many bus depots of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) in GHMC limits with the public transport entity deciding to introduce 2,200 electric buses in the Greater Hyderabad limits.

A coordination committee meeting was held here on Thursday at the TGSPDCL headquarters with officials from TGSRTC participating in it. They discussed measures required for providing electricity connections to EV charging points.

In addition to the 25 charging stations in the Greater Hyderabad limits, the Southern Discom will also establish two charging stations in the Suryapet depot and one each at the Sangareddy and Nalgonda depots. About 124 megawatt power supply is required for the new charging stations.

The meeting discussed the infrastructure required for setting up charging stations and the steps to be taken for laying electricity lines. The Vice Chairman & Managing Director of TGSRTC, Y. Nagi Reddy, stated that plans were being made to introduce electric buses on a large scale in the Greater Hyderabad area by the year-end. Space required would be arranged at available locations for setting up switching stations or substations required for the charging stations.

The Chairman & Managing Director of the Southern Discom, Md. Musharraf Faruqui, instructed the officials to examine the applications submitted by TGSRTC for the establishment of charging stations, prepare estimates by February 1 and commence the works.

Vice Chairman & Managing Director of the Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation V. Anila, TGSPDCL Directors V. Shivaji, B. Narasimhulu and Chakrapani, TGSRTC Executive Directors M. Rajasekhar and Munishekar, and other officials participated in the meeting.
