The wife and son of a Sub-Inspector of Police (Armed Reserve) in Madurai were killed in a road accident on Wednesday when one of the car tyres burst and the vehicle fell into a ditch near Chinnamanur in Theni district.
Jaya, wife of Sub-Inspector of Police Vellaipandi, and their children Gautham and Aparna were on their way to Jaya’s mother’s house in Uthamapalayam in Theni district. They were returning after visiting a hospital in Salem.
Jaya’s relative Arun was driving the car. Arun’s mother Dhanalaksmi was also in the car. It is said that the car was travelling on Chinnamanur bypass road towards Uthamapalayam when one of the car tyres burst. The driver lost control and the vehicle fell into a ditch.
The passersby informed Chinnamanur police and the occupants of the vehicle were rushed to Chinnamanur Government Hospital in an ambulance. Jaya died at the hospital while Gautham was referred to Theni Government Medical College Hospital. However, he died on the way.
The injured are receiving treatment at Chinnamanur Government Hospital. The Chinnamanur police have registered a case.
