District Excise and Prohibition Officer R. Prasad on Tuesday (December 30, 2025) said that the department has generated a revenue of ₹1,940.37 crore through liquor sales in 2025, a 1.74 per cent increase compared to the previous year. He said that while during 2024, about 20.91 lakh IMFL cases, 11.90 lakh beer cases were sold, in 2025, about 23.22 lakh IMFL cases and 17.23 lakh beer cases were sold.
Mr. Prasad was reading out the annual report of the Excise and Prohibition Department, at the office in VMRDA Premises on Tuesday.
He said that Visakhapatnam district has 159 wine shops, 75 bars, 16 star hotels, five APTDC Bars, seven clubs, two micro-breweries, two premium stores and 19 defence canteens.
“On an average, liquor worth around ₹6 crore is being sold per day in Vizag district, of which 45 per cent of the transactions made are digital,” he said.
The officer said that during the year 2025, the department registered cases against 442 belt shops (unauthorised liquor outlets/kiosks), in which they seized 883 kg IMFL and 65 litres of beer. About 443 persons were arrested in these cases, he added. He further stated that there was a 63 per cent reduction in the cases of belt shops in 2025 compared to 2024.
