
‘Victims are our Tamil brothers and sisters’: CM Stalin condoles Karur deaths; cautions against rumours | Chennai News – The Times of India
CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu chief minister M.K. Stalin on Monday said the Karur stampede, which claimed 41 lives, must never occur again. He announced a one-member commission of inquiry, headed by former judge Arunachalam Jagadeesan, to investigate the incident.Stalin added that each bereaved family has received Rs 10 lakh in compensation and that full medical care is being provided to those injured in the tragedy.In a video on his official X account, he said, “Do not spread rumours or slander on social media about the tragedy in Karur. Everyone should behave responsibly.”The CM said the scenes he witnessed at Karur hospital remain etched in his memory and that he continues to grieve. He added that he could not remain at home, despite issuing directions to the district administration, and rushed to Karur the same night.He said the government will take further action based on the commission’s report. Cautioning against rumours and divisive messages on social media, Stalin stressed that the deceased should be regarded as Tamil brothers and sisters, beyond party lines.The CM also said rules would be framed, in consultation with political parties and public organisations, to ensure greater responsibility in conducting future events.He emphasised that human lives must take precedence over politics, policies, or rivalries, and preventing such incidents is a collective duty.
