A magistrate court in Udupi granted bail to activist Mahesh Shetty Thimarody who was arrested on August 21 for his alleged derogatory comments on BJP national general secretary B.L. Santosh.
The first Additional Civil Judge and JMFC, Udupi, N.A. Nagesh, granted bail to Mr. Thimarody. The judge, among others, directed him not repeat the offence. He was also asked not to threaten any prosecution witnesses.
After his release, Mr. Thimarody told reporters that he has no information about the arrest of complainant witness in the mass burial case. He declined to say anything on the flip flop in statements before media persons by elderly woman Sujatha Bhat about her daughter Ananya Bhat going missing in Dharmasthala in 2003.
He said the fight for arrest and conviction of real accused in the 2013 rape and murder of Soujanya will continue.
Mr. Thimarody was produced before the court on Saturday morning. The court heard arguments related to bail application of Mr. Thimarody in the afternoon and passed the order.
In the compliant registered by the Brahmavar police, Rajiv Kumar, the president of Udupi Rural BJP Mandal, accused Mr. Thimarody of making personal comments and maligning character of Mr. Santosh during the interview with Kudla Rampage YouTube channel. When he failed to appear before the investigation officer following issuance of two notices, the Brahmavar police arrested Mr. Thimarody on August 21 from his house at Ujire.
Three of Mr. Thimarody supporters were also booked for alleged blocking of police vehicles taking Thimarody from Ujire to Brahmavar.
