Thousands rally in Garhwa against Waqf Amendment Bill | Ranchi News – The Times of India

Garhwa: As part of the nationwide protest against waqf amendment bill, thousands of protesters, led by the Alpsankyak Adhikar Manch, staged a peaceful demonstration in Garhwa on Saturday. The rally, which began at Karbala Maidan and concluded at Town Hall Ground, drew significant participation from various political leaders.
Despite the peaceful nature of the protest, local administration heightened security measures across Garhwa town. Notable participants included former water resources minister Mithilesh Kumar Thakur, Congress district president Obaidullah Haque Ansari, JMM district president Tanveer Alam, and representatives from various political parties.
Thakur strongly criticised the amendment, stating it contradicts constitutional principles and would deprive Muslims of their rights over waqf properties. He termed the central govt’s attempt to control these properties as “unacceptable”.
Congress leader Ansari warned that the amendment would hamper waqf’s ability to serve the poor, while CPI-ML’s Sushma Mehta called it a violation of Muslim communities’ religious and fundamental rights.
Protesters submitted a memorandum to the Garhwa DC for forwarding to the President of India. A similar protest was also organised in Banshidhar Nagar sub-division.
