Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat has called upon students to adapt to emerging changes in technology, and update their knowledge and skills to stay ahead in the race. Hailing the industry for providing a platform to students in this regard, he suggested an interactive approach to draw their attention.
He was speaking at the inaugural of the 2nd Edition of the two-day AP Digital Technology Summit 26 (APDTS 26), at the VMRDA Children Arena, here, on Friday (January 09). While appreciating the APDTI for organising the event to give an overview of the changes emerging in the field of technology, he said it would be useful only when students and also teachers take advantage of the opportunity.
He called for a proper mindset among engineering college faculty, who think that once they secure a job in a college, they need not update their knowledge. They might be good at theory but unless they keep themselves abreast of the changes, they would be teaching the same outdated syllabus, which they had studied decades ago.
The students should also be prepared to upskill themselves as technology is changing rapidly. He suggested to the summit organisers that interactive sessions between domain experts and the students would be far more beneficial than giving lectures to the students on the subject.
Mr. Sribharat said that the government was keen on bringing IT investments into North Andhra but when the required talent pool was not available, it would not serve the desired goals. He called upon the students to learn new technologies and be future-ready to take advantage of the developments in the field of technology.
Sreedhar Kosaraju, Chairman of APDTI Network, said that the basic roles could change due to the emerging technologies like AI and drones. He, however, said that new roles would be created. APDTI was formed to train students and enable them to take advantage of the emerging technologies. “The real power lies in convergence. Deep domain expertise was required in areas like IT, Digital technologies, AI, and drones,” he said and expressed optimism that AP would set the trend in this regard.
Kavitha, Director of STPI, and Kiran Babu Cherukuri of HCL Technologies were on the dais. Robots made by students of KIET, put up at the entrance of the hall, attracted the visitors.
