NEW DELHI: A cab driver and a passenger were killed, and another occupant was critically injured when their cab was hit by a car near Siri Fort in South Delhi early Wednesday.The deceased were identified as Girja Lal Bharadwaj (43) and Ranjeet (30). A PCR call was received around 4.20am, reporting a crash on August Kranti Marg.Ranjeet and his relative, Sumit (20), both dhol players, were returning home in Lajpat Nagar after taking a cab from Hauz Khas.“A car travelling from Panchsheel flyover towards Andrews Ganj allegedly rammed into their cab as it was taking a right turn towards Balbir Saxena Marg,” an officer said. The cab had three occupants, all of whom were rushed to AIIMS trauma centre, where doctors declared two of them brought dead, while Sumit remained critical.

The front portion of the other car was also damaged. At the scene, the traffic signal and a gas connection pole were found damaged. A vehicle windscreen and blood were also found lying at the spot.Monica Singh, a resident of Udai Park, said she was out for her morning walk when she noticed the accident.The driver of the vehicle, identified as Krishansh Kapoor (21), a resident of Udai Park, was apprehended from the spot. He told the police that he was returning home after meeting his friend, who lives in Panchsheel Park, when the accident occurred. A senior police officer said that Kapoor is pursuing MBA and that the car involved in the incident is registered in the name of his mother, a retired teacher. “The vehicle was being driven at high speed,” police added. Bharadwaj lived with his wife and two sons in Khichripur and was a cab driver. His son, Deepak, said the family received a phone call from the police about the incident and rushed to the hospital, where they found that his father died.His father was the sole breadwinner who took care of his brother’s treatment and other expenses. “My brother Vishal was in a coma after he met with a road accident few years back. It was our father who took him for treatment,” he added.
