Snapchat has rolled out new safety features through its Family Center hub in order to help parents better track and understand their teens’ in-app activities.
First, parents can see the average time their teen spent on Snapchat every day during the previous week, and which in-app activities took most of their time. This includes chatting, posting, creating with the camera feature, using the Snap Map, or watching content.
“This insight can help spark a dialogue about healthy screen time and online habits, giving parents concrete information to shape the discussion,” said Snapchat in a press release.
The Family Center can also be used to track a teen user’s friends and better understand how the virtual meeting took place. When new friends are added on Snapchat, parents will be able to see whether there are mutual friends or contact information that was saved in the past, apart from seeing which communities they come from.
Snapchat further rolled out a new safety and educational resource video to assist parents and caretakers in using the Family Center tools.
