Shah Rukh Khan bought Mannat in the year 2001 and it’s a very old building with an interesting history. The mansion has been standing there at Bandra’s Bandstand since the 18th century. Reportedly, it was built by an Indian king named Raja Bijay Sen, who was from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi region. Sen built this bungalow for his queens just how Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal for Queen Mumtaz. However, when Raja Bijay Sen passed away in 1902, Mannat, the mansion, was sold to a man named Perin Maneckji Batliwala in the year 1915. Perin renamed the house Villa Vienna and later sold it to his sister Khurshidbai. When Khurshidbai died, it was sold to her sister Gulbanu and then to Gulbanu’s son Nariman Dubash. Before Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan was going to buy the house. However, Salman’s father, Salim, told him that they don’t need such a big house and hence the superstar decided to not buy it.

In the year 1997, SRK was shooting for the movie Yess Boss and he saw the house when he was filming for the song Chand Taare. That’s when he fell in love with it and decided that he would buy it one day. Well, in 2001, Shah Rukh Khan bought the house for 13 crores. At that time, it was quite old and needed a lot of repairing. SRK renovated it and made it a modern luxurious home, which is now known as Mannat and is worth more than Rs 2000 crore.

SRK has extended Mannat to a six-story building and it also has a swimming pool, a personal movie theatre, a gym, and a beautiful garden. Now, the superstar wants to make it even bigger and better with the upcoming renovation.

Salman’s message comes on the heels of similar reactions from other major stars. Shah Rukh Khan took to the platform to express sadness and anger over the ‘inhumane act of violence’ as he offered his condolences. Along with stars like Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, and Anil Kapoor, many South celebs like Ram Charan, Jr NTR, Allu Arjun, Mohanlal, Mahesh Babu, among others also joined in condemning the act of violence and called for peace and accountability.

The collective response from Bollywood reflects a growing urgency for safety and security, for tourists and citizens who long to visit the region without fear. The attack has sparked renewed conversations about the need for stronger security measures and support for victims of terrorism. While investigations continue, the wave of celebrity voices has added to the nationwide call for unity, justice, and peace.

As Kashmir mourns, the outpouring of solidarity from all corners—especially from public figures—offers a reminder that the pain of violence is deeply shared and that the demand for justice must be loud and clear.
