Saw a blackspot in Bengaluru? Now, you can alert civic officials on WhatsApp | Bengaluru News – Times of India

Bengaluru: BBMP has launched a dedicated WhatsApp number — 9448197197 — for citizens to report waste-related complaints. The move is part of a larger push to end garbage dumping in public places and promote civic responsibility among residents.Apart from daily cleaning by pourakarmikas, regular cleanliness drives by BBMP and door-to-door collection system, many residents continue to dump waste on footpaths, stormwater drains, empty plots and public places during odd hours. This not only mars the city’s aesthetics, but also obstructs movement and contributes to environmental hazards. Further compounding the issue is illegal dumping of construction debris and unwanted materials in various corners of the city.To address this persistent problem, BBMP has set up a central complaint mechanism to enable timely reporting and resolution of waste management issues. The civic body is calling upon citizens to actively participate by reporting violations and working with local authorities.Call for citizen supportRamamani VK, chief operations officer of Bengaluru’s solid waste management authority, appealed to citizens to support BBMP’s mission and help maintain cleanliness in their neighbourhoods as Swachha Bengaluru, Hasiru Bengaluru is not just a slogan, but a collective responsibility. Citizens can call BBMP helpline at 1533 or register complaints via the official website: bbmp.gov.in.
