Religious Icons Vandalised in Shivamogga, Two Arrested
Bengaluru: Unidentified persons vandalised religious icons at Bangarappa Layout in Ragigudda, Shivamogga district, on Saturday evening, leading to tension in the area. Two persons have been arrested in connection with the incident. The government has declared Shivamogga, along with Udupi and Dakshina Kannada, as a communally sensitive district.
Locals alleged that an unknown person had been staying at an under-construction house in Bangarappa Layout, and on Saturday, his apparent associate was seen at the site. The associate is alleged to have carried out the vandalism. Upon learning of the incident, Shivamogga Superintendent of Police Mithun Kumar inspected the location.
Shivamogga MLA Channabasappa demanded the immediate arrest of those involved in the vandalism, while former chief minister B.S. Yediyurappa urged the police to take swift action to apprehend the culprits.
