RANCHI: One person died and another is feared trapped after a portion of the roof of a government school building collapsed in Ranchi’s Piska More area, officials said on Friday.The incident occurred amid continuous rainfall in the Jharkhand capital. Rescue operations are underway to locate and save the individual believed to be trapped under the debris, a police officer confirmed.“A person was killed when a portion of the roof of a government school building collapsed. We have sent our team for a rescue operation as we received information that another person is trapped inside,” Sudkhdeo Nagar Police station in-charge Manoj Kumar said.Kumar said the victim was an elderly man who had been sleeping in the school verandah when a section of the roof gave way.Police have launched an investigation into the incident, and more details are awaited.Jharkhand has been witnessing heavy rainfall over the past several days, which may have contributed to the collapse.(With inputs from PTI)
