Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Monday (May 19, 2025) unveiled the foundation for the construction of quarters for police personnel in Chennai and Coimbatore districts. About 1,100 quarters for police constables are to be constructed in Thousand Lights in Chennai and Pollachi in Coimbatore.
While the quarters for about 900 police personnel would be constructed at Mansion Site in Thousand Lights at a cost of ₹380 crore, those for 220 police personnel would be constructed in Pollachi at a cost of ₹76 crore, an official release said.
The Chief Minister also unveiled the foundation stone for the construction for a prison at Billichi near Coimbatore, where the central prison was to be relocated from the city. In the first phase, prison cells for male inmates, quarters for police personnel, and amenities are to be constructed at a cost of ₹211 crore.
Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam, Home Secretary Dheeraj Kumar, Director-General of Police Shankar Jiwal, and senior officials were present on the occasion.
