Private hospital in Chennai launches social media helpline for colorectal diseases

To mark the Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, GEM Hospital, Chennai has launched a social media helpline for colorectal diseases. This initiative will allow patients to post their queries related to colorectal diseases on the hospital’s social media pages such as on Facebook (@gemhospitalchennai) and Instagram (@gemhospitalchennai).

According to a press release, experts from the hospital will send a detailed response within 24 hours. Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month is observed in March to highlight the importance of screening for colorectal cancer and to promote healthy lifestyle habits that can decrease a person’s risk of developing cancer of the colon, rectum or anus. In line with this, the hospital also conducted an awareness programme on colorectal cancer to educate people about the symptoms, behaviour of the disease and the importance of early screening.

C. Palanivelu, founder, GEM Hospitals said the hospital also provides psychological support for patients with colorectal diseases during the treatment process, the release said.
