Prime Accused Arrested in Delhi Shooting Case After 6 Years | Delhi News – The Times of India

After six years on the run, police in Northwest Delhi have arrested Sumit, the prime suspect in a 2019 witness attack case

NEW DELHI: Six years after a witness was shot at in a case in Northwest Delhi’s Samaypur Badli, police have arrested the prime accused from MCD Colony, Samaypur Badli. The suspect has been identified as Sumit, also known as Pankaj and Hakiri.
Background of the case
According to the complaint filed by Sonu, the incident has its roots in 2017, when a boy named Rahul from his neighbourhood was murdered by Pardeep. Following the murder, Pardeep, alias Vicky, began threatening Rahul’s family, warning them not to testify against him in court. Despite the threats, the family stood firm and continued with their statements, which eventually led to Pardeep’s conviction and life imprisonment.
The attack on the witness
On November 29, 2019, Pardeep, Sumit, and Abhishek went to Sonu’s house, carrying pistols. They opened fire, issuing threats to “teach him a lesson” for testifying. During the shooting, Sonu sustained bullet injuries, prompting a police case. While all three accused were arrested, Sumit later jumped bail and had been on the run ever since.
Accused’s background and arrest
Sumit had completed a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and held various jobs. However, he was lured into a life of crime, allegedly due to his drinking habit and his aspiration for a luxurious lifestyle, according to DCP (Crime) Satish Kumar.
With his arrest, the police are now investigating whether he had any further criminal involvements during the period he was absconding.
