Tiruchi Corporation has planned to open a portion of the integrated vegetable and fruit market complex at Panjapur, located on the Tiruchi–Madurai National Highway, within a month. The facility is under construction.

The project is being implemented at a total estimated cost of ₹236 crore. Of this, ₹120 crore has been sanctioned under the Infrastructure and Amenities (I&A) Funds while ₹8 crore each has been allocated from the Capital Grant Fund 2025-26 and the Corporation Fund 2025-26. The remaining ₹100 crore is being mobilised through the issue of Municipal Bonds.

According to an official source, construction of a section of the market complex comprising around 100 shops will be completed and will be opened shortly. Sources said the inauguration of this portion is likely to coincide with Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s visit to Tiruchi towards the end of January.

At present, civil work is progressing at a fast pace, with contractors instructed to expedite the construction of the block. Progress of the project is being closely monitored through regular reviews to ensure timely completion, said a senior Corporation official.

The integrated market complex is developed on 11 acres of land at Green Park. As per the plan, the facility will have seven blocks with ground plus two floors. The first and second blocks will have 872 shops, with 436 shops in each block. The first and second blocks will house both wholesale and retail shops, and 100 shops will be allotted to pulse traders. A separate open auction facility will be constructed.

Construction of a dining space with a seating capacity of 150 to serve traders and truck drivers, sanitation complexes on all floors, and a parking lot with the facility to park 1,100 two-wheelers, 200 cars, and 102 cargo vehicles are among the parts of the project.
