Pope Francis has chosen a simple tomb inside the St. Mary Major Basilica in Rome. His burial request avoids the chapel altar to preserve it for Eucharist celebrations and Marian veneration. According to Archbishop Rolandas Makrickas, Francis asked that his tomb be “humble and essential,” bearing only the name Franciscus, his bishop’s cross, and Ligurian stone honoring his grandparents’ land.
