Tourism Minister R. Rajendran, on Saturday (January 3, 2026), stated that through the special medical camps conducted under the Nalam Kaakkum Stalin Scheme, a total of 44,245 people have been benefited, so far.

On Saturday, the Minister laid the foundation stone for renovating Pal Market in Shevapet at a cost of ₹5.05 crore and inaugurated new bridges at ATC Nagar (₹2.05 crore) and KMS Garden (₹1.80 crore), that were constructed across Varattaru in Salem Corporation. He also inaugurated a sanitary complex constructed at ₹27 lakh on Samy Street in Ward 40 of the Corporation. The Minister then inspected the medical camp conducted under the scheme at the government higher secondary school at K.R. Thoppur near Tharamangalam.

Addressing the reporters, the Minister said that the Pal Market will be renovated with 198 shops, a compound wall, an office room, drainage, borewell with an electric motor, and a canteen.

He added that in the district, until Saturday, 31 medical camps were conducted under the scheme, benefiting 18,602 men and 25,643 women. Blood tests were conducted for 33,884 people, EGC tests -30,637 people, ultrasound scans -4,392 people, echo tests -4,826 people and X-ray -3,090 people. Counselling was also facilitated for the participants. In the camp, identity cards were provided to 26 differently-abled persons after check-ups, the Minister said.

District Collector R. Brindha Devi, MP T.M. Selvaganapathi, MLA R. Arul, Salem Corporation Mayor A. Ramachandran, Corporation Commissioner M. Elangovan, local body representatives, and officials from departments concerned also participated.
