No pucca road for vehicles, snakebite victim dies waiting for ambulance | Ranchi News – Times of India
CHATRA: A snakebite victim failed to receive timely treatment and died because his tola (hamlet) lacked a proper road to reach the pucca road, which was 1 km away from his village, to take an ambulance.Identified as Sukul Bhuiya (30), a resident of Tola Mandarpatti of Besara village in Boudhadih Panchayat under the limits of Kunda police station area, he went to the bushes located at some distance from his house for defecation early on Tuesday morning when he was bitten by a poisonous snake.Injured, he somehow reached home and informed people about the snake bite, but by then he fell unconscious on the ground. People called the free 108 ambulance service to report the incident. The vehicle arrived half an hour after receiving the information. Due to lack of road to reach this tola, the ambulance waited on the main road of Besara village, located about a kilometre away from the incident site. The tola has a population of 250.Seeing no other option, Sukul’s cousins, Mithlesh Bharti and Vikash Bharti, carried him in a blanket on their shoulders with the help of wooden poles and walked a kilometre to reach the ambulance. Unfortunately, he died before he reached the ambulance on Tuesday evening. The deceased, a daily wager, had a son and a daughter. Upon receiving information about the incident, local leaders Jairam Bharti and Binod Saw reached the village and inquired about the matter. They informed the police and sent the body for postmortem to Chatra Sadar Hospital.Villagers said that if there had been a road, Sukul’s life could have been saved. Due to the absence of a road, ambulances and other vehicles are unable to reach the tola on time, which leads to such incidents occurring repeatedly.Rajesh Bharti, a village said, “There is not a single road to reach this tola from the main road so we are facing a lot of trouble.” Another local, Mithlesh Bharti added that the leaders and govt officers assured them several times about a road, but it failed to become a reality.Chatra subdivisional officer Jahur Alam said that he will look into the matter and ensure that a road will be constructed up to that tola. He said, “The district administration is ensuring basic facilities, including roads, to far-flung areas.”
