Mangaluru city police have sent samples of the 37.878 kg of MDMA, worth ₹75 crore, to State Forensic Science Laboratory in Bengaluru and National Forensic Science University’s (NFSU) Laboratory, which was seized from two West African women, who are said to be drug peddlers, in Bengaluru recently.
Officials supervising the investigation of the case said, as part of the investigation the police have to get report from the FSL about the nature of the drug that has been seized. So one sample was sent to the FSL, Bengaluru. As the seized drug is of huge quantity, there is legal requirement to get report from a national laboratory and hence another sample was sent to NFSU’s laboratory in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The police have retained the third sample. Permission of the jurisdictional court will be sought for disposal of the remaining MDMA, a city police official said.
The Central Crime Branch sleuths of Mangaluru arrested Bamba Fanta alias Adonis Jabulile, 31, and Abigail Adonis alias Olijo Evans, 30, from a flat in Bengaluru when they were reportedly preparing to leave the house to distribute MDMA, soon after their arrival at Bengaluru Airport from Delhi, on March 14. The CCB team seized 37 kg of MDMA, which was said to be highest recovery by police in the State. According to police the two women were found carrying fake passports and visas.
Initially police suspected the two women as residents of South Africa. After thorough examination of their documents, the CCB team found Bamba as resident of Ivory Coast and Abigail as resident of Nigeria. The police have sought from Narcotic Control Bureau and Intelligence Bureau details of activities and criminal antecedents of the two women.
In all probability, the two procured MDMA in India. Like their earlier visits to Bengaluru, this time too they wanted to distribute MDMA to their contacts quickly and return to Delhi within 24 hours of landing at Bengaluru airport, the official said.
