Man sentenced to 21 years in jail for rape, kidnap of minor

The First Additional District and Sessions Court here on Friday (September 12, 2025) convicted a man for abduction, illegal confinement and sexually assault of a minor girl and sentenced him to 21 years of imprisonment and ₹35,000 penalty.

According to the police, the victim’s parents lodged a complaint on November 14, 2018, alleging that their minor daughter was missing from home. They said that they ventured out around 5:30 p.m. on the day for some work, but could not find her on their return around 8:00 p.m. The police registered a missing case and took up investigation.

However, the course of the investigation changed when the minor came to the police station on March 11, 2019, and alleged that she was kidnapped and sexually assaulted. The police then arrested one rowdy-sheeter identified as Sake Raj Kumar alias Rojakunta Pedda of Rojakunta Street in Nandyal town in the case.

The accused had allegedly befriended the victim and took her from her house and then travelled to various places including Hyderabad. He had sexually assaulted the minor several times.

The police booked the accused under various sections of IPC and Section 5 r/w 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.

The police made the accused’s parents and sisters co-accused in the case after they were found guilty. A charge-sheet was filed in October 2019. After trial, the Court sentenced Raj Kumar to 20 years imprisonment and ₹25,000 fine under POCSO Act and another one year imprisonment and ₹10,000 penalty in the case related to abduction.
