Man posing as IAS officer cheats 150 govt job aspirants in Mumbai of crores; FIR filed | Mumbai News – The Times of India


Mumbai: Posing as an IAS officer working with the Staff Selection Committee in New Delhi, a man duped over 150 people of crores of rupees on the pretext of providing them jobs as tax assistants and inspectors.Sahar police registered a case against Nilesh Rathod on Sept 26 following a complaint from Navi Mumbai resident Santosh Kharpude (55), who, along with his 36 relatives and friends, was defrauded of Rs 2.9 crore between 2023 and 2024.“Investigations revealed that the suspect collected Rs 4-7 lakh from each of his victims to provide offer letters for tax assistant and tax inspector posts. We are gathering information about the suspect before arresting him,” a police officer said.Kharpude’s friend Ravindra Thakare introduced him to Rathod in Jan 2023. In his complaint, Kharpude stated: “I met Rathod, who claimed to be an IAS officer employed in Delhi in the Staff Selection Committee, in a five-star hotel. He promised me a govt job. Through me, 36 of my relatives and friends also paid money to Rathod after he assured them of appointment letters within a month. It has been over two years and no one has secured a job.When Kharpude enquired about Rathod, he found that at least 150 other job aspirants had been also defrauded. He then approached Sahar police.
