Mamidipally Known as ‘Army Village’
Nizamabad: Mamidipally, dubbed Army Village, lies on Nizamabad-Jagdalpur National Highway 63 in Makloor mandal, Nizamabad district. About 20 youths from this small village serve in the Indian Army, many at international borders. Amid India-Pakistan tensions, locals frequently check on the well-being of these soldiers and their families.
Chandrasekhar joined the Army two decades ago, inspiring others to enlist in the Army and Telangana police. Six retired soldiers now live in the village. Sai and Anil currently serve in Jammu and Kashmir.
Former sarpanch Chintha Malla Reddy expressed pride in the village’s high number of Army personnel, noting Mamidipally’s reputation as Army Village grew after the India-Pakistan conflict.
Sai’s parents, Narayana and Laxmi, are proud of their son’s 13-year Army service but worry for his safety since the Pahalgam attack. Sai, their only son and father of three, calls daily but speaks briefly.
Naveen, another soldier’s wife, said her husband, a 14-year Army veteran, had his leave canceled due to the conflict. Villagers, who followed war updates on TV, felt relieved after the India-Pakistan ceasefire.
