A Delhi Court on Friday (January 9, 2026) framed charges against former Bihar CM and RJD Chief Lalu Prasad in a corruption case related to a land-for-jobs scam. The matter was being probed by CBI.

During the proceedings, the CBI submitted a verification report regarding the status of the accused persons in the case, stating that out of the 103 accused named in its charge sheet, five had died.

The CBI filed charge sheets against Lalu Prasad, his wife and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi, their son Tejashwi Yadav and others in connection with the alleged scam.

In its FIR, the central agency had alleged that during 2004-2009, the appointment of several substitutes on the Group ā€œDā€ posts in the Indian railways was done in different zones of the Railways in exchange for land parcels. The jobs were given due to pressure extended by the Railway Ministry, then headed by Lalu.

The accused have denied the charges, claiming the case is politically motivated.
