Kolkata schools shine in EWISR 2025-26 | Kolkata News – The Times of India
KOLKATA: Kolkata reaffirmed its position as one of India’s premier education hubs, with several schools securing top spots in the EducationWorld India School Rankings (EWISR) 2025-26, released today. Conducted by EducationWorld in association with Bangalore-based AZ Research Partners Pvt. Ltd., the survey is the world’s largest of its kind, rating 4,500 schools across 518 cities on 14–15 parameters of excellence. For the first time, EWISR introduced an “Ivy League” category, celebrating schools that have consistently dominated rankings over the years. “The new Ivy League ‘super nova’ category is a natural progression that ensures consistently top-ranked schools are celebrated as the ‘best of the best’ while allowing other schools greater visibility,” explained Dilip Thakore, Founder-Editor, EducationWorld. He added that this innovation “fuels healthy competition, strengthens institutional pride, and uplifts the overall quality of primary and secondary education.” Among Kolkata institutions, The Heritage School earned a 2-Star Ivy League ranking, while Birla High School, Moira Street secured 1-Star Ivy League recognition in the boys’ category.

Should schools prioritize academic excellence over co-curricular activities?
The city’s girls’ schools also performed strongly at the national level, with Modern High School for Girls ranked No. 2 nationwide, followed by Sushila Birla Girls School at No. 10. Legacy institutions too rose in stature: Loreto House climbed to No. 2 (from No. 7 last year), while La Martiniere for Girls ranked No. 3 nationally. Among boys’ schools, St. Xavier’s Collegiate School retained its No. 4 position, while La Martiniere for Boys slipped slightly to No. 5. Calcutta Boys School made the top 10 at No. 7. Schools in Howrah also made their presence felt, with MC Kejriwal Vidyapeeth surging to No. 3 (from No. 6 last year), and Agrasain Boys School breaking into the Top 10 at No. 9. “By adopting a ‘quality over quantity’ approach and conducting structured, one-on-one interviews with 9,500 respondents across 34 cities, we’ve ensured greater accuracy and authenticity in the rankings,” said Shubhra Mishra, Founder-Director, AZ Research Partners. “The Ivy League clustering with star ratings reflects the reality that elite schools often differ only marginally – it’s an innovation that enhances fairness and credibility.” Apart from academic reputation and faculty competence, the survey assessed schools on co-curricular education, sports, mental well-being services, parental involvement, teacher welfare, community service, value for money, and alumni quality. Kolkata’s consistent presence across categories — from Ivy League recognition to philanthropy schools like Future Hope School (No. 6 nationally) — reinforces its standing as a city where tradition, modernity, and excellence in education continue to converge.Infobox: Top Kolkata Schools in EWISR 2025-26Ivy League (Best of the Best)
